SBU6 students ran a wide range of events last week (1-4 April) in the lead-up to the Spring break. Each event was devised, planned and managed by Business students, who are completing a course module in managing professional events.
On Wednesday, one of the groups organised a recruitment fair, open to students from across the sixth form. Employers including Avon, Natwest and Catch22 took part, with over 200 students dropping in to find out about opportunities, compete applications and get valuable CV tips. Lead organiser Abdulsalam Keji said, “It is wonderful to have had this opportunity in the sixth form, I’m very grateful to our teachers for sharing their expertise and the businesses who supported us. Running the fair has given us fantastic experience of what it is like to manage a business event. We really enjoyed it and think it was useful for our students and the companies who came, they have met a lot of good candidates for the future.”
On Thursday, another group organised a ‘Mystery Cinema’ screening. Selling tickets and snacks enabled the group to raise almost £100 for charity.
A third group of students spent the week organising collections of toiletries and toys to donate to the Evalina children’s hospital.
SBU Sixth’s Lead tutor for Business, Clarise Mofor, said: “It was great to see the students embrace the challenge of coming up with events, and the work they put into organising them paid off very well. Not only have they learnt a lot but they helped give the last week of term a real buzz among the whole student community in the sixth form.”
