SBU6 students on international work placements

SBU Sixth students in Engineering, Health and Finance are getting fantastic practical experience with international work placements in 2026, as part of the Turing Scheme. We will be posting regular updates and media via this page regularly over the coming days and months, as groups head off to Spain and Greece in January, February and June.

The first Engineering group of 12 students on the T-Level and BTEC courses arrived in Valencia, Spain for three weeks of work placement on 20 January.

Update: Friday 23 January
“Chilly but sunny here in Valencia – good weather for work! We are all settling into the various shift times – it is good to be getting up early and making our way to work independently, seeing plenty of the city. Some of us are working in bike rental, doing repairs and getting bikes ready for new customers. A good opportunity for some engineering in action as well as chance to meet and chat with Valencia residents and tourists.”

“Today, we visited all the companies where we will be doing our placements. We each met our managers and were given a clear overview of roles and responsibilities. Tomorrow is our first day in the jobs, with some starting at 9.30 and others doing later shifts. Overall, everyone is in good spirits, with no signs of homesickness so far!”
