Have you seen adverts for the ‘Talking Futures’ campaign in print and digital media recently? This campaign, created by the Gatsby Foundation, is designed to help parents and carers support their children in making informed decisions about technical education and careers.
Post-16 education offers a range of choices and qualifications which can sometimes leave young people and parents uncertain about their best option. SBU Sixth – London’s only specialist technical sixth form – therefore welcomes this campaign and the support it provides to the families of teenagers.
The Talking Futures website provides a range of information and resources to:
- Empower parents to have meaningful conversations with children about their career options.
- Explain qualifications including T-levels, BTECs A-levels and Apprenticeships.
- Support parents who wish to ensure their children get the most from school careers programmes.
SBU Sixth Principal Kishan Pithia said, “Parents are often the most influential figures in a young person’s education decision-making – but many parents are themselves unsure about qualifications and the various pathways to careers and university. With the rise of apprenticeships, the recent introduction of T-Levels and now talk of a new ‘V-Level’, there’s more choice than ever. So it’s great to see the ‘Talking Futures’ campaign providing parents with knowledge about these courses, as well as the confidence to talk about them to their teenagers.”
At SBU Sixth, we are always delighted to involve parents at every stage. If you have a young person interested in finding out about studying engineering, health, science or business at sixth form, come along with them to our Open events or interview. You will be very welcome and our team will be pleased to talk you through the different qualifications and what they involve.
