With so many Sixth Forms and Colleges around, how do you pick the right one?

Our curriculum focuses heavily on health and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subjects and we do it well.  We employ experienced specialist teachers and use our strong industry links to enhance teaching and learning.  Students are like minded young people who are looking at pathways in University, completing an apprenticeship or entering the world of work within health (medicine, nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, health sciences) or one of the STEM fields.

We offer an innovative and exciting way of learning. Lessons are a mixture of theory and practical, with an emphasis on workshops, scientific investigations and the use of technology to solve problems and design solutions.  The curriculum is narrower, although we are able to offer a variety of pathways based on our Business & Finance Engineering and Health specialisms.

The curriculum also facilitates the development of personal skills.  Projects and trips are designed to ensure students are highly employable, professional qualifications are on offer within our CPD and enrichment programmes, and actively engaged sponsors and partners contribute a wealth of experiences including lectures, one to one sessions and larger scale events such as the Skanska Takeover Day.

Industry Sponsors

Our sponsors are integral to the UTC experience and these links are what really set us apart.  The contacts and relationships that students are able to build with them can lead to apprenticeships and careers for the future, and our sponsors are ready and waiting to snap up some real talent.

Life at the UTC

Students are encouraged to have a clear intention and purpose to their studies. This helps to prepare our students to be ready for their future professional careers in both health and engineering. In order to ensure our students have access to the best possible destinations, we develop students whole portfolio of both skill, knowledge and experience. One way we do this is through a series of enrichment days that present students the opportunity to work on; Youth Action, Cultural Capital, Professional Awards, Health Related Learning and Enterprise.

A number of leadership and employment opportunities are on offer within the UTC and, as in the professional world, these roles are offered to students with excellent records of attendance, punctuality and conduct.

University Sponsorship

Students receive high levels of advice in relation to their UCAS applications and personal statements. There are dedicated staff to support this process and our industry partners also run workshops and one-to-one sessions.

We are part of the LSBU Group, meaning our students get extra support and guidance when they apply for university or degree level apprenticeships; at London South Bank University or any other provider.

The projects are what really set the school apart when I was looking at Sixth Forms. We have built bamboo bikes, designed and built lighting for children’s hospital wards and we are learning about project management and the business side of things

Year 12 student

I came to the UTC because I was looking for a different style of teaching, a more business-like environment. I want to go into civit engineering so this was definitely the right option for me, as the contacts with partners such as Skanska are invaluable.
