High success rate in GCSE English at SBUSixth

Students at SBUSixth who sat GCSE English in November have been celebrating outstanding success rates, with the number improving their grade coming in at almost double the national average.

In all, 34 students across the sixth form re-took their GCSE English in November, having achieved a grade 3 or below at their previous school last year. 23 of these (68%) achieved a grade 4 or above in these re-sits, with 9 students getting grades 5 or 6. (The UK average for students achieving a 4 or above at the November exams was 37%)

SBUSixth Principal Kishan Pithia said: “What fantastic results! We are so happy for the students who improved their grades at these early re-sits. Their success means that they now have the English grade they need to progress to the next level in their subject, and ensures that options such as university and higher apprenticeships are now in reach. I’d like to thank the students and teachers for the hard work behind these results.”

One of the successful students, Alison, said: “My English teacher at SBUSixth helped me to focus and tackle areas of language that I wanted to improve on. The lessons were really engaging and re-taking the exam early kept everyone in the group focused and motivated.” Alison (pictured below) improved on her last result by 3 grades (from 3 to 6), an exceptional achievement which only around 1% of those taking the exam across the country will manage. With this grade, she is now well set to continue her ambition to study T-Level Engineering with SBUSixth next year.
