Welcome from the Principal
Dear prospective students, parents and carers,
As Principal of South Bank University Sixth Form, it is my privilege to welcome you to a community that is proud to serve the young people of Brixton and the wider boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham. Our roots are firmly planted in this vibrant part of London – a place known for its diversity, creativity and resilience. Those same qualities are at the heart of our sixth form.
I am fortunate to lead a team of outstanding educators who share my values and my commitment to transforming the lives of young people. Having dedicated more than 20 years to post-16 education, I know both the challenges and the incredible potential that exist for underrepresented communities. That is why everything we do at SBUSixth is built on one belief: every student deserves the very best opportunities to succeed.
Since my appointment as Principal in August 2024, our students’ achievements have been remarkable. We are proud to celebrate a 100% pass rate across all qualifications, with 79% of A-Level grades at A*–C and 80% of BTEC results ranging from DDD* to MMM. Behind these numbers are stories of determination, support, and a community that never stops believing in its young people.
What makes us different? Three things stand out:
- Wellbeing first. Every student has the right to feel safe, supported and valued. Student wellbeing – physical, emotional and mental – is our non-negotiable foundation.
- Excellence in teaching and learning. Our teachers are experts in their fields who continually refine their practice to meet the needs of a diverse generation. High standards and a love of learning are at the centre of our culture.
- Real-world pathways. Though we are small enough to feel like a close-knit family, we are connected to hundreds of employers and industry partners. Our employer-led curriculum gives students direct access to opportunities in high-demand sectors such as Engineering, Finance and Health – preparing them not just for exams, but with the skills and confidence to thrive in the future.
As part of the prestigious LSBU Group, we also open doors beyond sixth form: from higher education to degree apprenticeships, our students benefit from a powerful network that supports every stage of their journey.
We know that choosing where to study after 16 is a big decision. At SBUSixth, you will always receive impartial advice and personal guidance to help you find the pathway that is right for you.
I warmly invite you to visit us in Brixton – to meet our staff, experience our facilities, and most importantly, hear from our students themselves. They are the best ambassadors for what it means to belong to SBUSixth. I look forward to welcoming you at one of our open evenings.
Warm regards,
Kishan Pithia – Principal, South Bank University Sixth Form

Our values are in place to help focus and guide our students in everything they do.
Innovation. Integrity and Intent.
Our innovative approach to teaching and learning allows creative thinking and develops problem-solving skills. It helps to prepare our students for work, higher education and apprenticeships. Integrity is about professional conduct and trust in the quality of our work and the way our students conduct themselves. A clear intent drives forward our ambition to succeed and perform to the highest of our ability.
Future focused
Our high-quality technical and traditional courses are employability focused. They support our students to gain the knowledge to achieve good qualifications, as well as the skills to prepare them for their futures. We support and facilitate our students to embrace opportunities and give them the skills needed for work and further education.
Industry-standard facilities
Our facilities are industry standard, with equipment that encourages hands-on learning. Our advanced engineering workshops, laboratory, health, computing and personalised learned spaces are designed to be STEM-focused. We offer technical opportunities that traditional schools can’t with 3D printing, laser cutting, robotics and virtual reality all forming part of our day-to-day learning. Find out more about our facilities.
Our Sponsors
SBUSixth is part of the LSBU Group, a family of education providers led by London South Bank University. They share our passion to provide excellent, accessible and supportive education to enhance career outcomes. Our co-sponsors have helped to develop a curriculum that sets students up for the real working world. Skanska, Guy’s and St Thomas’ and King’s College NHS Foundation Trusts are leading names in Engineering and Health. They deliver projects where students solve real world problems, and give them opportunities that makes them stand out from the crowd. Find out more about LSBU Group and our sponsors.
Specialist Curriculum
Our specialisms in engineering and health link to the proud heritage in London. Engineering is about more than just building things; it’s about being creative, practical and aims to make the world a better place. Opportunities in Health continue to grow, as we develop the next generation of nurses, midwives, oncologists, physiotherapists and many more. We focus on allowing students to apply their own imagination, ideas and creativity to their learning, while also developing soft skills like teamwork, leadership and communication skills.

We are innovative in the way we work, meaning students who choose to study here often go into university, higher-level apprenticeships or straight into employment.
Our students are motivated, creative and adapt well to an academic and technical environment. They are given support to become self-managers and team players. We have a business-like way of working, with a professional working day and business dress.
We are advancing in our voyage by constantly innovating. In September 2023, we revamped South Bank University Sixth Form and unveiled a thrilling array of pathways known as T-Levels that include Health, Engineering, and Finance. These prepare our students for in-demand careers in industries that are significantly lacking in skills.
We offer opportunities most traditional schools can’t – come and see for yourself!
