SBUSixth tutors win prestigious national teaching awards

The SBUSixth Health teaching team has been named a Silver award winner of the FE Team of the Year category in the prestigious Pearson National Teaching Awards for their incredible impact on students here.

The four teachers – Ingrid Miller, Lindsay Edward, Abi Badiru and Najraan Yaxye – are among 99 outstanding teachers, lecturers, leaders and support staff from schools, sixth forms and colleges across the country who are honoured as Silver Winners on National Thank a Teacher Day today (17 June 2026)

The team will now be considered for the Gold award, announced at an awards ceremony and on BBC’s The One Show later this year.

SBUSixth Principal Kishan Pithia said, “We are beyond proud of this fantastic team – the work they put in for their students is inspiring and they richly deserve this award.”

Separately, SBUSixth Head of Business and Finance Clarise Mofor was named as a Bronze winner in the national Teacher of the Year category. Mr Pithia added, “We’re delighted for Clarise too. For a specialist sixth form college to have its staff receive two of these major awards in one year is incredible – a fantastic achievement in itself and a real tribute to our wonderful teachers.”

National Thank a Teacher Day, and the Pearson National Teaching Awards, are run by the Teaching Awards Trust, an independent charity established over 25 years ago to celebrate the transformative impact of education, shining a spotlight on the pivotal roles teachers, support staff, colleges, schools and early years educators play in inspiring young people, every single day.
