A-Level Maths is a course that develops your ability to think logically, solve problems and work with numbers in a clear and structured way. Students study key areas such as algebra, calculus, trigonometry and statistics, building on what they learned at GCSE and applying it at an advanced level.
Throughout, there is a strong focus on reasoning, accuracy and use of mathematical theories and models. A-Level Maths is highly respected by universities and employers, and it supports a wide range of future pathways, including in science, engineering, health, finance and economics.
- Course details
On the course, you’ll build on your GCSE knowledge and explore maths in greater depth across several key areas. In pure mathematics, you’ll study advanced algebra, functions, trigonometry and calculus, learning how to model and solve complex problems involving change and rates.
Alongside this, you’ll cover statistics, where you analyse data, understand probability and interpret real-life datasets. Mechanics, meanwhile, applies maths to physical situations like motion, forces and velocity.
Throughout the course, there is a strong emphasis on logical reasoning, problem-solving, and clear methods, helping you develop the confidence to tackle unfamiliar questions and apply maths to both theoretical and real-world contexts.
- What this course can lead to Mathematics is a key requirement for degrees in Engineering, Physics and many Computer Science courses. It is also highly valued for subjects such as Economics, Finance, Data Science, Actuarial studies, Architecture, Business and even social sciences such as Geography where data analysis is important.
