The A-Level Engineering pathway is an exciting opportunity designed at SBUSixth for students who want to combine strong academic foundations in Maths and Physics with developing career-focused skills in engineering.

Blending applied learning with rigorous study, the qualification covers key engineering principles alongside real-world project work. Combining A Level Physics, A Level Maths and an AAQ in Engineering, the course enables you to explore major engineering topics while developing the underpinning scientific knoweldge for degree-level study and excellent career prospects.

  • What this course can lead to

A combination of A Level Maths, Physics and Engineering can lead to a wide range of highly skilled and rewarding careers, particularly in STEM fields. Students often progress into roles such as mechanical, civil, electrical or aerospace engineer, as well as rapidly expanding areas like renewable energy, robotics and artificial intelligence. These subjects also provide a strong foundation for careers in architecture, product design, software development and data analysis.

Many students choose to continue their studies at university in scientific or engineering-focused degree courses. Recent students from SBUSixth have gone on to degree courses in eerospace, mechanical and civil engineering.

  • Course details

    • The AAQ Engineering course covers a broad and balanced range of topics that combine academic study with practical application. Students explore key engineering principles such as mathematics and physics in context, alongside areas like mechanical and electrical systems, materials science and engineering design. The course also introduces modern engineering practices, including computer-aided design (CAD), manufacturing processes and sustainability in engineering.
    • A Level Maths develops advanced problem-solving and analytical skills through topics like algebra, calculus, and statistics. Maths is the essential basis of advanced understanding and application of engineering.
    • A Level Physics explores the fundamental laws that govern the universe. Students will develop understanding of concepts such as forces, energy and electricity through both theory and practical investigation. You will learn how to apply the principles covered in a variety of engineering disciplines.
